strung out - the exhumation of virginia madison (yes i'm obviously addicted to this band)
it's about a guy that had a dream where he kills his girlfriend... he then notices that he's made a terrible mistake, and he starts to fall apart. so he goes to her grave and digs up the dirt with his bare hands. he then lies down next to her corpse and buries himself with her. romantic in a twisted way
that's a quick basic summary, it actually goes deeper than that but i'm too lazy

Gawd there are TONS of love songs:
Shania Twain has several:
From This Moment
You're still the One
Gonna Getcha Good
Marvin Gaye has a couple:
Let's Get It On - being the most known
Barry White -
Never gonna give you up
Skid Row -
I will remember you
Poison -
Every Rose has it's Thorn (previously mentioned)
Edwin McCain -
I'll Be
Kimberly Clarke (american idol)
8th Wonder
Celine Dion -
(Titanic Song...don't remember the name)
That's the way it is (lil more upbeat but still a love based song)
Linda Ronstadt & Aaron Neville -
I don't know much
Goo Goo Dolls -
Iris (theme from City of Angels)....you honestly can't get better than that, an angel gives up his wings for love.

Tom Waits - "Martha" - the whole song is a single phone call a man is making to his first love - 40 years after they've parted.

You would have problems finding love songs that are better than this one. Just reading the lyrics you can tell that it is a great song.

Bette Midler did an incredible female rendition of the same song - she performed it only once on SNL and never recorded it (I think she wanted to keep it private because it reminded her of something very personal) - I saw that performance which was completely heart-breaking. She was in tears from the beginning of the song to the end as if she were really on the phone with palpable embarrassment, nostalgia, angst, love, regret and sadness - I'll never forget it.
